Born in New Zealand, Tristan started shooting films at age 14. His first job in the film industry was working for MGM and George Lucas’s Lucasfilm. Straight after, he entered the country’s top film school, where he studied writing and directing under top lecturers including Peter Jackson (King Kong, LOTR). It was here that he honed his artistic sensibilities.
On leaving film school, Tristan directed short films, music videos and test commercials. Having fine-tuned his skills with clips and experimentals, at 25 he was selected to direct for high profile and hip production company Kino Montage. Tristan soon became one of the country’s most sought after directors, crafting TVCs for such clients as Coca-Cola and Sony.
After two years as New Zealand’s youngest director, Tristan was headhunted to Australia. With Sydney as his base, he went on to direct TVCs in Singapore, Miami and London.
Cut to a decade later and Tristan has directed award-winning TVCs in many of the 11 countries he has shot in. He has been privileged to have shot with heads of departments who have worked with Ridley Scott (Gladiator, Blade Runner), Michael Bay (Armageddon, Bad Boys), Stanley Kubrick (2001, Clockwork Orange) and David Fincher (Fight Club, Seven).
Tristan’s distinctive style in automotive, sport, special effects, dialogue, humor and storytelling, has flown him around the world several times. He is now based in Asia, where his visually powerful filmmaking skills have found him constantly in demand. Please email for further information.
